Use of mobile end devices for information transfer in the documentation

With the presentation of the first iPad on 27 January 2010, Steve Jobs ushered in a new era. Initially, the iPad was smirked at by many, but anyone who tried it immediately realised the benefits of mobile information use. In the time since, sales figures for tablets have become significantly higher than for laptops.

It is therefore foreseeable that mobile devices will revolutionise the use of information and technical documentation, not only in the private but also in the industrial sector. The first attempts to use the new medium have already been made, but mobile devices for technical documentation have not yet established themselves in the masses.

So now is exactly the right time to look at the new opportunities and the challenges they present. This is exactly what we do in our workshop.

In addition to an overview of current technologies and existing mobile documentation solutions, the main focus is on information concepts and the challenges that arise for Technical Editing. We deliberately do not consider the concrete technical implementation (e.g. the programming of a documentation app), but concentrate on the part of the task that is much more important for Technical Editing; namely a good concept. The acceptance of documentation on the mobile device stands or falls with the concept.

Target audience

The workshop is aimed at Technical Editors and Technical Documentation Managers who want to prepare for the digital world.
